A discussion meeting was held with festive moods at Chandipasha Govt High School premises on the occasion of historic Mujib Nagor Day organised by Nandail Upazila Awami League. Jessore Correspondent adds: Two factions of Jessore Awami League observed the historic Munibnagar Day separately in Jessore town on Monday. Obscene words were used to the intra- party opponents in the rallies held Daratana Square and the premises of Jessore District Bar Association in the afternoon, said observers.
It was observed that two factions led by Shahidul Islam Milon, president, Jessore district unit Awami League attended the rally along with his followers on the premises of Jessore District Bar Association while Pijush Kanti Bhattachariya, presidium member, Bangladesh Awami League and Shahin Chaklader, general secretary, Jessore district unit Awami League attended the rally of other faction of the party held at Daratana Square at the same time.
BSS from Rangpur reports: The historic Mujibnagar Day was observed here on Monday with a call for disseminating true national history among the young generations to build a prosperous Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The district and city units of Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies hoisted the national and party flags and placed wreaths at the portraits of Bangabandhu and four national leaders in the morning at district AL Office in observance of the day.
The district administration arranged a discussion on ‘Historic Mujibnagar Day and Independence of Bangladesh’ followed by cultural programmes at Town Hall auditorium today afternoon to observe the historic Mujibnagar Day-2017.
Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman in the chair.
Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Bashir Ahmed, Senior District Information Officer Humayun Kobir, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Priyosindhu Talukder, city AL President Shafiur Rahman Shafi and General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal addressed, as special guests.
Recalling enormous importance of the historic day, the speakers said the War of Liberation got a specific dimension on this day in 1971 when the provisional government in exile took oath at Baiddonathtola in Meherpur.
They said the national flag was hoisted after renaming Baiddonathtola as Mujibnagar as a mark of tribute to Bangabandhu who was declared as the President of the government-in-exile in presence of hundreds of freedom fighters, local and foreign journalists.
Syed Nazrul Islam took oath as the acting President in the absence of Bangabandhu, Tazuddin Ahmad as the first Prime Minister, while Khandaker Mostaq Ahmed, Captain M Mansur Ali and AHM Quamaruzzaman as the cabinet ministers.

On April 17 in 1971, Bangladesh government-in-exile took oath at Baidyanathtala mango grove in Meherpur, in the then Kushtia district.
Marking the day, the district administration arranged a discussion at the conference room of the deputy commissioner in the city.
Chaired by Khulna deputy commissioner Nazmul Ahsan, Parliament member of Khulna-2 constituency Mizanur Rahman Mizan, addressed the meeting as the chief guest while ex-member of then National Assembly (MNA) advocate Enayet Ali spoke as the key speaker.
President of District Unit Muktijoddha Command Council Sarder Mahbubur Rahman, freedom fighter Rezwan Ahmed, President of Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ) S M Zahid Hossain, General Secretary of Shilpokola Academy freedom fighter Mokbul Hossain Minitu, Additional Police Super Badiuzzaman, among others, addressed it. Mizanur Rahman Mizan, MP paid glowing tributes to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four other national leaders who contributed immensely to the liberation war of Bangladesh. “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the real patriot of the country,” he said, adding that Bangabandhu had designed plot of Independence as well as provisional government of Mujibnagar.
Earlier in the morning, local Awami League (AL) leaders placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman here. National flag and party flag were also hoisted at the party office.
City Unit Awami League (AL) arranged a discussion at the party office in the afternoon. City unit AL president Talukder Abdul Khaleque chaired the meeting while Khulna district unit AL president and chairman of Khulna District Council Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid addressed as the chief guest. AL leaders Saiful islam, Taslim Uddin Asha, Fakir Saiful, Mahbub Alam Sohag, Shahedul Haque Mintu, Shaymol Singha Roy, Mokbul Hossain Mintu, among others, spoke.
Khulna Information Office screened a video show on Mujibnagar day and arranged a discussion meeting at the auditorium of Khulna Zila School.
