Budget 2022-23FY: Highest allocation in transport, communication sector

The government has given the highest allocation to the transport and communication sector for the Annual Development Program (ADP) for the coming 2022-23 fiscal year. A total of Tk 70,696 crore has been allocated for this sector, which is 28.73 percent of the total allocation.
In 2021-22 financial year, the transport and communication sector had received the highest allocation of Tk 61,631.41 crore too.
The second highest allocation of Tk 39,412 crore has been kept for the power and energy sector for the next budget, which is 16.02 percent of the total allocation. In the current financial year, the allocation for this sector was Tk 45,867.84 crore.
The approval of proposed budget allocation was placed at National Economic Council (NEC) meeting chaired by (NEC) Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday.
 Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the NEC meeting through video conferencing from Ganobhaban which was held at the NEC Conference Room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and the Cabinet Room of Bangladesh Secretariat.
The third highest allocation of Tk 29,081 crore has been kept for the education sector for 2022-23 fiscal year, which is 11.62 percent of the total allocation. In terms of allocation, it is followed by housing and community facilities sector, which get Tk 24,497.96 crore and the fifth highest sector is the health which received Tk 19,278 crore.
 Besides, Tk 16,465 crore has been kept for the local government and rural development sector, Tk10,144 crore for agriculture sector, Tk 9,859 crore for the environment, climate change and water resources sector, Tk 5,407 crore for the child and economic services sector, Tk 4,168 crore for science and information technology sector.
On the other hand, among the top 10 sectors based on ministries and departments, the local government department will get the highest allocation of Tk 35,842 crore and the road transport and highway department get Tk31,296 crore for the upcoming budget 2022-23 fiscal year.
Besides, Tk 14,929 crore has been allocated for the Ministry of Railways, Tk 14,01 crore for the Secondary and Higher Education Department, Tk 11,042 crore for the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Tk 9,290 crore for the Bridges Department and Tk 7,938 crore for the Ministry of Water Resources.
On the other hand, the top 10 project-based allocations are given to Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project are around Tk 13,396 crore, 4th Primary Education Development Program (PEDP-04) project sector about Tk 8,759 crore and Matarbari 2,600 MW ultra-super critical coal fired power project about Tk 6,554 crore for the next budget.
Besides, Tk 6,019 crore allocated for Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Expansion (Phase-01) project; Tk 5,809 crore for Padma Bridge rail link project, Tk 4,254 crore for Covid-19 Emergency Response and Pandemic Preparedness (WB-GoB) project, Tk 3,851 crore for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge construction project; Tk 3,703 crore for Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway construction project, Tk 3,059 crore for Expansion and Strengthening of Power System Network under DPDC Area project and Tk 2,883 crore for Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Line-06) project has been kept for the upcoming budget of 2022-23 fiscal year.
