Heavy rains inundated many parts of Chattogram on Saturday and Sunday causing sufferings to dwellers.
In Chattogram, most areas of the city, including Halishahar, Agrabad, Bakalia, Chawkbazar, Katalganj, Muradpur, Gate No-2, GEC Mor and Khulshi, went under water due to incessant rains.
Many were seen wading through water on roads while others chose to stay indoors. Met office at Patenga recorded 84.2 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours till 12pm on Saturday, said Md Abdul Hannan, a meteorologist.
He said the rain is likely to continue for the next two or three days. Meanwhile, four army teams were deployed to address the water-logging problem in the city.
They were trying to remove water from different points since morning, said Lt Col Shah Ali. Besides, different areas in Rangunia, Rauzan, Hathazari, Patiya, Chandanaish, Satkania and Logahagara upazilas were also inundated following heavy rains for the last few days. Many residents of these areas have already been evacuated to shelter centres.
In Fatikchhari and Hathazari upazilas, two people reportedly drowned in the floodwater.
The deceased were identified as Imam Hossain, 7, son of Belal of Fatikchhari’s Bhujpur, and Adnan, 16, son of Nurul Absar of Hathazari’s Najirhat.
Meanwhile, a man, Abdun Nabi, 55, went missing after being washed away by floodwater while going to Lemon Garden in Patiya.
