Nasim Real Estate owner detained for fraudulence: ‘He swindled Tk 280 crore by fake land registration’

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Md Imam Hossain Nasim, 66, owner of Nasim Real Estate along with his assistant Halima Akter Salma, 32, from the capital’s Rupnagar residential on Wednesday evening for fraudulent activities.
They said 16 companies have been found in Nasim’s name so far. He was a fugitive. About 55 arrest warrants have been issued against Nasim from different police stations for fraud.
They also seized a 7.65 mm foreign pistol, one magazine, three rounds of ammunition, Tk1,35,000 in counterfeit cash, 1400 pieces of yaba,
two bottles of foreign liquor, four sets of walkie-talkie, six passports, 37 bank chequebooks and 32 SIM cards.
RAB-4 Commanding Officer (CO) Md Mozammel Haque confirmed the matter in a press briefing at RAB media center in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar area on Thursday.
Md Mozammel Haque said acting on secret information, a team of RAB-4, led by Deputy Commander Major Md Rakibul Hasan and Senior ASP Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman conducted an operation in Rupnagar residential area on Wednesday. Nasim was in hiding until now.
“A total of four cases of arms, drugs and fraud are pending against Nasim and his wife. Multiple fraud victims are preparing to file cases against the arrested,” he added.
RAB-4 Commanding Officer said Nasim appeared as the owner of the so-called Nasim Real Estate Company through an innovative fraudulent tactic in 2000.
He embezzled huge amount of money fraudulently by taking Tk fuve lakh from 5000 people each, promising them to build residential housing at Kaundia area of Savar.
 “He also swindled around Tk280 crore by fraudulently registering land for another 250 people who paid him Tk12.50 lakh each,” Md Mozammel Haque added.
Nasim has been setting up various companies since 2005 to embezzle money from people in different ways.
Md Mozammel Haque said victims filed multiple cases against Nasim at different times in the wake of which 55 arrest warrants were issued against him in different police stations of the country including the capital.
