HC grants bail to MP Bodi

UNB, Dhaka :The High Court on Thursday granted ad interim anticipatory bail to ruling Awami League MP Abdur Rahman Bodi, an accused in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission, as he surrendered to it.After a brief hearing on the bail petition, an HC division bench comprising Justice Syed AB Mahmudul Huq and Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury passed the order.Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru appeared for the accused-lawmaker. No ACC counsel was present to oppose the bail.Asked about his absence during the hearing, ACC counsel Khurshid Alam Khan said the four-week pre-arrest bail had been granted before he reached the courtroom.He further said: “Earlier, I had a talk with the designated deputy attorney general requesting him to seek time petition if the hearing takes place before my arrival.”The ACC counsel, however, said that he would move the Appellate Division against the HC order.On August 21, the ACC filed separate cases with Ramna Police Station accusing MP Bodi (Cox’s Bazar-4 constituency) and two former state ministers-Abdul Mannan Khan and Mahbubur Rahman Talukder-of amassing wealth illegally.
