HC clears way to JU to recruit 6 teachers

The High Court on Sunday cleared the way for the Jahangirnagar University authorities to continue the recruitment process of six teachers for the Philosophy Department.
The High Court summarily rejected two writ petitions filed challenging the legality of the recruitment process.
The HC Bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after holding hearing on the writ petitions.
Following the petitions the same HC Bench on June 17 this year stayed the recruitment process of six teachers till June 20 and asked the JU authorities to submit the relevant documents regarding appointments of the teachers to it by this time.
After assessing the documents submitted by the JU authorities, the HC Bench summarily rejected the two petitions.
Barrister Aneek R Haque and advocate Syeda Nasrin appeared for the writ petitioners, while Deputy Attorney General Arobinda Kumar Roy represented the state and lawyer Cumar Debul Dey argued for JU.
Later Cumer Debul Dey said now there is no bar on the university authorities to proceed the recruitment process.
The JU authorities issued a circular on February 11 for appointing six lecturers for its Philosophy Department. A total of 57 candidates appeared in the viva test on June 12 this year through virtual system.
Four teachers of the department, Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, Professor Dr ASM Anwarullah Bhuiyan, Professor Md Zakir Hossain and Assistant Professor Abdus Satter, filed a petition on June 10 with the High Court.
Meanwhile, two of the candidates also filed another writ petition with the High Court challenging the legality of the online process of recruitment test. The court held hearing on the two petitions simultaneously and passed order on Sunday.
