Hartal relaxed for 12 hours: 20-party to hold victory rally

Staff Reporter :The BNP-led 20-party alliance has relaxed its hartal programme for 12-hour for today (Monday) to celebrate Bangladesh Cricket Team’s victory in the World Cup. The alliance will hold victory procession across the country today. BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan made the announcement in a press release on Sunday evening, hours after the Bangladesh Cricket Team secured their position in World Cup quarterfinal beating England. According to BNP leader’s announcement of, the hartal will be relaxed from 6:00am to 6:00 pm. But, the countywide blockade will continue. Nazrul Islam Khan urged the leaders and workers of the 20-party alliance to bring out victory procession in all parts of the country to celebrate the historic victory of Bangladesh Cricket Team. The 20-party alliance called for fresh spell of countrywide 72-hour hartal from Sunday morning to Wednesday morning alongside the ongoing blockade programme to press home their demands, including fresh elections under a nonparty government system. BNP Joint-Secretary General Salauddin Ahmed in a statement on Saturday announced the hartal. The hartal was also called for protesting extrajudicial killings by the law enforcers, forced disappearances, abductions, and crippling of the 20-party men. The protest was also against mass arrest, government’s interference in the judiciary and control over the media, and demanding the release of all political prisoners.
