Narayanganj Correspondent :A dawn to dusk hartal was observed here peacefully in the district on Sunday at the call of Narayangonj District Bar Association protesting the kidnapping and killing of seven people, including Panel Mayor of Narayangonj City Corporation Nazrul Islam and Senior Lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker. Decomposed bodies of all kidnapped people were recovered from the Shittalakhya river near Kalagashia under Bandar Police Station on Thursday.The Employees and staff of Narayangonj City Corporation led by Mayor Dr Salina Hayat Ivy are abstaining from attending their office work for forty eight hours beginning Sunday in protest against the kidnapping and killing of the seven people.A microbus was damaged by picketers near Narayanganj Press Club in the morning. Buses, trucks, private cars and rickshaws did not ply on Dhaka-Narayangonj road. But a very few number of buses plied on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.Picketers blocked Dhaka-Narayanganj rail at Fatulla and a Narayanganj bound train from Dhaka was halted at 7:00am and since than train service remained suspended.A rally was held in front of the Narayanganj Press Club organized by Narayanganj District Bar Association with its President Advocate Shakawat Hossain Khan in the chair.The speakers demanded the arrest of the Culprits involved in the abduction and killing and their capital punishment.BNP and some other left leaning political parties like CPB, BSB, JSD, Gonoshonghoti Andolon and Tawki Monch extended their support to the hartal by bringing out processions separately. Shop, restaurants, business establishments and educational institutions remain closed. However, government and semi-government offices and banks were open but attendance of staff was thin.Police, RAB and BGB patrolled the city road. There was no report of any untoward incident during the hartal hours.Police super of Narayangonj Khandakar Mohit Uddin, at a press briefing in his office at 12 noon, said they are examining the blood stained microbus which was seized from the house of Nur Hossain, Councilor Ward-4, and prime suspect of the seven murder case. He also said the police are trying to find out the clue behind the seven murder case. Everything will be clear after getting the autopsy report of the victims, he said.
