CDA embarks 10-yr master plan for traffic management in Port City

 Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) is going to embark upon a ten years long Master Plan for traffic management in the city.
CDA has initiated the project in collaboration with the World Bank in line with the opinion of the experts following a series of meetings.
This was disclosed at a daylong workshop on “Chittagong Strategic Urban Transport Master Plan” held at hotel Radisson Blu last noon.
Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain attended the workshop as the chief guest.
The minister said as part of the master plan all public transports in the city would be brought under single management system in order to stop unhealthy competitions in transport sector and compelled the drivers to park their respective vehicles in specific location.
Mosharraf put importance of strong coordination among public utility organizations including Chittagong City Corporation, Chittagong Development Authority (CDA), WASA and Traffic Department of Chittagong Metropolitan Police to turn Chittagong into a world class city with all civic amenities by reducing traffic Jam.
He also opined for enforcing strict traffic law and enhancing punishment for the drivers to lesion the growing road accident.
“We will take steps to set up world class passenger sheds at a maximum distance from the intersections of the roads and then we can force the public transport sector to maintain discipline”, the Minister opined.
The Minister called upon Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) to continue ongoing drive for freeing the footpath from the hawkers.
Chittagong development authority Chairman Abdus Salam presided over the function while CCC Panel Mayor Chowdhury Hasan Mohammad Hasni, Project team leaders of World Bank Chi Gioki Sakaki, Kolin Brader, David Inghum and CDA city Planner Mohammad Shahinul Islam Khan, among others addressed the function.
