Chittagong Bureau :The countrywide 72- hour hartal, enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance, was almost ignored by people of Chittagong on Thursday .Chittagong Metropolitan and District police control room sources said there was no report of any untoward incident from any part of the city and district during the Hartal hours.Chittagong city and district police in a series of drives detained 13n activists of BNP-Jamaat-Shibir from different areas of Chittagong city and district on Thursday night.BNP along with its alliance called the countrywide 72-hour hartal from Sunday and extended it for 36 hours more till 6am on Friday next.Police and eye witnesses said that there was no picketing and procession by the supporters of hartal and blockade.Police and eye-witnesses said the situation in the city and district during hartal was almost normal as a good number of vehicles mostly commuters’ services were seen plying on the city streets ignoring the hartal.Besides, a good number of buses and heavy vehicles on the long distance routes plied with police escort during the hartal while most of the roadside shops and markets remained open.Even most of the streets were seen with traffic jam. All educational institutions in the city remained opened, academic activities were held as usual.Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) Authority sources said that operational activities inside the CEPZ went on in full swing and attendance of the workers was almost normal.Besides, the Hartal did not affect the domestic and international flights at Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport, Bangladesh Biman sources said.Operational activities including loading and unloading of cargoes at ships inside the port and outer anchorage went on in full swing, sources said. 3 held with intoxicated drugs : RAB-7 forces in the port city recovered 30 thousand intoxicated yaaba from sulakbahar and Lalpukur area under Panchalaish thana in city on Thursday night and rounded up three drug traffickers allegedly involved with the trading of intoxicated drugs in Chittagong. These drug peddlers were rounded up in a nightlong drive in the area on Thursday , sources said. Legal actions under narcotics act against them, sources said.
