Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif on Saturday said if an investigation is conducted, BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s involvement with BDR mutiny will be found out.
He said this while replying to questions from journalists before joining the inaugural ceremony of Kabadi Competition arranged on the occasion of Mujib Barsho and the golden jubilee of the country’s independence in Kushtia.
About BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s comment that the Pilkhana carnage is an outcome of longstanding conspiracy, Hanif said when the BDR massacre was going on, Tarique Rahman had phoned BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia more than once to go away from her residence.
On that day, Khaleda Zia went into hiding going out of her residence, he said, adding that there was a connection between that incident and the BDR mutiny.
“We, too, demand an investigation. If investigation is done, BNP’s connection with the massacre will be found out,” he said.
Hanif said the mutiny was perpetrated on the just 50th day after formation of the Awami League government. Why the massacre was carried out, he questioned.
Lawmakers AKM Sarwar Jahan Badsha and Barrister Selim Altaf George, district Awami League President Sadar Uddin Khan, General Secretary Asgar Ali, Kushtia Sadar upazila chairman Ataur Rahman Ata, Sadar upazila Awami League General Secretary Rezaul Haque, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam, police super Md Khairul Alam, district AL joint general secretary Sheikh Hasan Mehedi and organizing secretary Majharul Alam Sujon were present on the occasion.
Later, a Kabadi Competition with the participants from seven thanas of the district police was inaugurated through a colorful procession. A cake was cut and pigeons and balloons were also released on the occasion.
