Govt works to improve living standard of ethnic minorities

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin said the government is working with utmost sincerity for improving the living standards of all citizens, including small ethnic groups, in the country.
“The present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly to improve the living standards of all citizens, including small ethnic groups. It is implementing various welfare based programmes for the development of all ethnic groups in the country giving equal importance to them,” he said.
He came up with the remarks on Friday, joining a scholarship and educational materials distribution ceremony through video conference as the chief guest from his government residence here, a press release said.
The event was organized by Barlekha upazila administration of Moulvibazar district where students under the current 2019-20 financial year got scholarships and educational materials under the ‘Development Assistance for Special Areas (Excluding Chattogram Hill Tracts)’ programme to improve the living standards of the small ethnic communities in the country, the release added.
Barlekha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shamim Al Imran presided over the function where Barlekha Upazila Parishad Chairman Shoaib Ahmed and Barlekha Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Siraj Uddin were present, among others.
A total of 254 students got cheques for scholarship worth Taka 8 lakh and various educational materials including pencils, geometry boxes and umbrellas in the programme.
