Govt to set up technical edn institutes in all UZs

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Friday said the government has undertaken a programme to set up one technical school in every upazila of the country.
Technical schools will be set up in 100 upazilas in the first phase while in 389 upazilas in the second phase, he said speaking at a function at Bangabandhu Auditorium of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute in the city.
The function was held marking the signing of annual performance agreements by principals of technical education institutes with the director general of department of technical education, said an official release.
In the function, principals of 119 government polytechnic and technical schools and colleges signed annual performance agreements with director general of department of technical education and additional secretary Ashok Kumar Biswas.
Education Secretary M. Sohrab Hossain also spoke on the occasion.
The education minister called upon all concerned to implement different development projects as per the annual performance agreement.
He said implementation of the government’s target of increasing the rate of technical education students to 20 percent will mitigate the unemployment problem to a large extent.
Because of various steps taken by the government in the last few years, the rate of enrolment for technical and vocational education increased to 13 per cent from 1 percent, he added.
The minister said that the rate of technical education students should be more than 50 percent to take the country to the rank of developed world.
