Dilapidated roads in city caused untold sufferings

City Corporations pay no heed to repair, huge tailback found everyday

Dilapidated roads and numerous potholes have been causing road accidents and frequent tailbacks forcing the city people to suffer lots.
 “We cannot drive our taxi comfortably because of numerous potholes. The danger rises when rainwater conceals the rugged portions of roads and potholes, resulting in accidents,” said Nazim Hossain, a taxi driver in Gulistan.
Abdur Rashid, a bus driver, said at Farmgate that the rugged roads and potholes cause huge traffic gridlocks in the city everyday.
All the transport drivers said, most of the roads in the Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation areas are unfit.
In Jurain, the entrance point for southern districts, the roads are in most dilapidated conditions. Potholes are uncountable on the Jurain-Jatrabari-Gulistan Road and Jurain Doyagonj to Motijheel Road.
The same condition exist from the Asad Gate to Gabtoli. The big potholes have been seen at Technical intersection, Parbata, Mazar Road and in front of Gabtoli bus terminal.
The Rampura to Demra Road is also rugged in many places. The local people said heavy loaded trucks and covered vans are responsible.
From Malibagh level crossing to Rampura bridge, the both sides of the road are in vulnerable situations for long.
There is a big pothole on the main road in front of Hazipara petrol pump with water. The rickshaw and taxies meet accidents while trying to ply on.
The road from Khilgaon level crossing to Malibagh level crossing is more vulnerable due to heavy downpour.
The roads from Khilgaon flyover to Bashabo-Nandipara area becomes unusable for transports.
Bashabo-WASA Roads is also in vulnerable conditions.
Toyenbi Circular Road which goes from Motijheel to Kamlapur is full of potholes. Uttar Goran, Sipahibagh, Jatrabari, Sayedabad and adjacent areas are no exception.
Roads at Moghbazar, Tejgaon and adjacent areas and Mohakhali have numerous potholes.
The authorities of DSCC and DNCC take no initiative to repair the roads.
When contacted, Md. Asaduzzaman, the Additional Chief Engineer of DSCC and Director of the road development project, said, “We have taken some measures to repair those roads. But it is not possible now due to heavy rain.”
Qudar Ullah, the Additional Chief Engineer of DNCC also explained in the same manner.
He said, “Rain is obstructing us to repair the damaged roads.
The both officials said the two city corporations will repair the roads soon after the rainy season.
