Hospitals, beds to increase to contain Covid ailment

The health authorities are stepping up measures of increasing hospitals and beds in existing facilities to cope the worse situation created by Covid-19 pandemic.
Sources said the recent surge of the infection of delta variant by the covid-19 virus made the government tensed.
The health authorities think that a grave situation may be arisen if the growing trend of contamination continues.
In such a situation, the government has made a plan to expand health care facilities to cope with the possible deteriorating situation. Public health experts also suggested the government to take an early preparation to handle any circumstances in near future.
They warned an India like worse situation due to the delta variant is spreading across the country.
To face the constant pressure of patients, the Directorate General of Health Services has stepped forward to increase hospitals and beds in existing facilities.
The DGHS planned to establish five field hospitals in Dhaka and one fieled hospital in every division under the plan. When contacted, Dr. Robed Amin, spokes person of DGHS told The New Nation on Saturday, “We have started searching venues to establish five field hospitals in Dhaka and one in every division to manage any situation of the pandemic.”
Besides, Dr. Robed Amin said, the authority has instructed the existing Covid dedicated hospitals to increase beds from the non-covid seats for accommodating more corona patients. According to the DGHS, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Convention Hall at the Mintu Road in the capital would be made as a 1000 to 10200 bed hospital.
Besides, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Convention Center in Shahbagh is also to be converted to a field hospital.
The DGHS sources also said that they have visited some other facilities to convert for more three make shift hospitals in the capital.
“A building near Police club in Gulshan has been selected primarily to make a makeshift hospital. The other venues are yet to finalise,” Dr. Robed Amin told The New Nation.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Saturday said, “At least 90,000 Corona infected patients have been detected in the last 10 days. Recently the number of Covid-19 patients has increased 8 times. 80 percent of the covid beds in hospitals have been filled with patients.”
“The number of patients is increasing day by day. In this situation, the Prime Minister has directed to increase the number of beds for corona patients in all the concerned hospitals of the country,” the Health Minister also told journalists during his visit on a vaccination center in the city.
