Govt to reconstruct damaged dam in flood-prone districts, says Maya

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya on Tuesday said the government would reconstruct the damaged dam in the flood-prone districts.
“The government also would build houses for flood affected distress people in the districts”, he said while addressing a meeting of his fifth day visit in Northern flood affected area with the district disaster management committee at the deputy commissioner’s conference room here on Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) M Khaled Rahim presided over the meeting. Golam Mustafa, MP, and Secretary of the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry M Shah Kamal, among others, were present.
“The government will also arrange different employment-generation programmes for the distress people after receding of the flood water in the districts”, the minister said.
Maya also urged the local NGO’s to postpone loan installment of the distress flood affected people and to help them.
He assured the people of the locality that the government would always stay beside them until their sufferings diminish and asked the district administration to take necessary measures for the farmers.
Maya said the relief distribution programme will be continued till the flood situation gets normal.
The minister also asked the medical teams to visit the shelter centres in the flood affected areas regularly and to ensure safe drinking water for them.
Earlier, the minister visited the flood affected areas in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat district and distributed relief among the flood victims. Later, he also distributed relief among the flood victims in Dimla upazila in Nilphamari district.
It is mentioned, flood situations in Northern areas of the county improved further following the continuous decreasing of water level in the major rivers.
