The government has decided to procure 18 lakh tonnes of Boro rice from the domestic market in the upcoming boro season and the purchase will start from April 28 to continue till August 31.

The Food Minister said that the procurement price of boro paddy had been fixed at Tk 27 per kg, boiled rice at Tk 40 and sun-dried (atap) rice at Tk 39.
Tthe procurement target has been set 6.5 lakh tonness of paddy, 11 lakh tonnes of boiled rice and 50 thousand tonnes of sun-dried rice.
In a virtual meeting, Food Minister drew the attention of the Minister of Agriculture Abdur Razzak to take the necessary steps to increase the production of fine rice.
The price of rice has not increased in the country’s market, Sadhan Chandra said adding that prices have been remaining stable for the past few weeks. “Reliance on fine rice has increased as most of the coarse rice has gone into non-human consumption and people have changed their eating habits. Due to this the price of fine rice has gone up a bit,” he added.
Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque said that all-out efforts have already been made to increase agricultural production. “Production of two newly invented varieties Bri-89 and Bri-92 Boro paddy is being expanded. The production of this species will be higher and the rice will be thinner. Cultivation of high yielding paddy is also being increased to increase food production,” the Agriculture Minister added.
State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief, Enamur Rahman said that considering the current market situation, it has been reasonable to set procurement targets and prices. This will ensure a fair price for the farmer’s crop, he said.
