Staff Reporter :
The BNP on Friday claimed that the government has snatched votes from Gazipur City Corporation polls with five tricks.
“Tricks of manipulation, creating panic, Gazipur SP’s direct participation in vote robbery, reckless activities of uniform and plainclothes police to create fear among voters and control of mass media through issuing threats were adopted to snatch away voters rights in the GCC polls,” said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi
at a press briefing at the party’s central office in the city.
He also said the police arrested BNP men in the day of GCC polls ignoring courts order not to detain party leaders and activists during the vote.
Rezvi said the government would be compelled to conduct the next polls under a nonpolitical neutral government.
He also said the government must free BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia from jail soon.
Meanwhile, the BNP has rejected the Gazipur city poll results and demanded re-election to there.
The ruling Awami League mayor candidate Jahangir Alam won the polls held on Tuesday defeating the party’s (BNP) contestant Hasan Uddin Sarker.
BNP Vice-Chairman Ahmed Azam Khan, Chairperson’s Adviser Abul Khair Bhuiyan and central leader Principal Selim Bhuiyan, among others, were present at the briefing.
