Govt to introduce 4G mobile network ‘this year’

The government is going to introduce 4G-network service this year in the country with a view to promoting the expansion of technology and keeping pace with global internet network, said Posts and Telecom Secretary Md Faizur Rahman Chowdhury on Wednesday.
“4G will be introduced by this year”, said the secretary while addressing a press briefing in the city.
Meanwhile, State Minister for Post and Telecom Tarana Halim, also present at the briefing, said a delegation from Bangladesh will go to Singapore to hold a meeting with Facebook authorities on January 12.
The team is going to meet the Facebook authorities to strengthen cyber security, the minister, who is expected to lead the delegation, told reporters. They will also hold separate meeting with authorities of Goggle and Microsoft there over the same issue.
State-own cellular phone operator Teletalk would introduce new logo in February as part of rebranding process towards turning it into a profitable entity, she said.
Experts said, it may be the first good news for mobile subscribers this New Year.
Private Mobile Operator Grameenphone first launched 3G networks in the country in October, 2013. At present, five telecom operators out of the six at present are providing 3G services to its clients. More than 12.47 crore people of the country are using mobile phones while 5.7 crore of them use Internet.
