The Education Ministry is going to take massive plan to increase the percentage of technical and vocational education institutes from 8 percent to 20 percent by 2020 to boost the technical education in the county.
“The technical education is a must to develop the country. The government will increase the number of technical educational institutions both in public and private sectors to attain the goal,” said Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) Chairmen Dr M Mustafizur Rahman.
He said this at a press conference on Sunday held in the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) Bhaban organised by IDEB ahead of international conference on ‘Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for Sustainable Development’. The TVET conference is scheduled to be begun Thursday.
Deputy Project Director of the government’s Skill and Training Enhancement Project (STEP) AJM Abdullah Hel Baki said, the government is awarding certificates to those who lack institutional training, but have acquired technical skills on the job.
He said the initiative will give them acknowledgement of their skills and help them get secure jobs, particularly in overseas markets where certificates of professional skills play a key role.
IDEB President AKMA Hamid, its General secretary Md Shamsur Rahman and program officer at ILO Country Office Dr Hari Pada Das also spoke at the press conference.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the three-day ‘Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for Sustainable Development’ conference on Thursday.
