A government official allegedly tortured and injured his wife over dowry in Naogaon district on October 23.
The victim was identified as Tasnuba Reza, 19, daughter of Sohel Reza, hailing from Amlapara area in Kushtia district town and an HSC candidate of Islamia College of the area.
Lutfunnahar, mother of the victim said Lahri Khan, hailing from Sultanpur village in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia district and deputy assistant engineer of the Power Development Board, Naogaon district, married Tasnuba 18 months back and started to live at a rented house in Doyal Mor area in Naogaon district town.
Few months after the marriage, Lahri started torturing Tasnuba for dowry.
On October 23, Lahri Khan along with the owner of his rented house beat up Tasnuba indiscriminately with iron pipe, chain lock and tester around 10pm, leaving her critically injured.
Being informed, family members of Tasnuba rushed to Naogaon town and rescued her.
She was admitted to Kushtia General Hospital as Lahri Khan and locals obstructed the family members to take her to a hospital in Naogaon.
Lahri Khan also obstructed them when they tried to file a case with Naogaon Sadar Police Station.
The procedure of filing a case with a Kushtia court in this connection is underway.
