Govt earmarks Tk 7.92b for fisheries, livestock projects

The government has allocated Taka 792.32 crore (7.92 billion) for implementing 52 development projects under the Department of Fisheries and the Department of Livestock Services for the current fiscal year (2016-17).
Of the allocation, the government will provide Taka 672.03 crore and Taka 120.29 crore will come as project assistance. The information was revealed while the progress of 29 fisheries projects under the fisheries sector was discussed at a meeting in the conference room of the ministry on Sunday, said an official release.
The allocation includes Taka 437.11 crore for 29 projects under the Department of Fisheries while Taka 3.74 crore has been spent in the first month (July 2016).
The expenditure was only 2 percent or Taka 1.77 crore of the total allocation for July of the last fiscal year, the release added.
The development projects of the fisheries sector are Installation of 3 Fisheries Diploma Institute at Gopalganj, Kishorganj and Sirajganj, Bangladesh Marine Fisheries Capacity Building, Pearl Cultivation Technology Development and Extension, Registration of the Fishermen and Distribution of ID card, Sweet Water Shrimp Cultivation and Extension, Aquaculture Development and Extension in hill areas and Infrastructure and Rehabilitation Project for increasing production of quality fisheries seedlings and spawn.
