Govt allocates adequate money for social safety-net programme

Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) Jahangir Kabir Nanak said the government is allocating adequate amount of money for social safety-net programme to eliminate poverty from the country.
“We have allocated a record amount of money in the past nine years for well-being of destitute people of the society,” he said this Wednesday at a cheque distribution function at Suchana Community Centre in the city.Mohammadpur Branch of Department of Social Service organised the cheque distribution function where Taka 37 lakh were distributed among 500 elderly people, people of harijan community and 23 voluntary organisations. Nanak said the government has expanded social safety-net programme to supplement the efforts of eliminating poverty from the society.
He urged official concerned and representatives of local government division to work sincerely and honesty to bring real beneficiaries under the programme.
Director General of Department of Social Service Gazi Mohammad Nurul Kabir, representatives of local government division and officials concerned, among others, addressed the function with Director of Department of Social Service Tapan Kumar Saha in the chair.
