Gold smuggling through Chittagong International Airport (CIA) has emerged as a regular phenomenon as CIA has turned into a safe route for gold smuggling.
In most of the days, golds are coming illegally from middle eastern countries through CIA. According to customs sources 122 kgs gold bars and ornaments were seized in CIA during last 6 months.
The appropriate value of these seized gold is about Tk.55 cr. Conscious circles observed that airport customs could not detain all the gold traffickers in airport and the lucky gold trafficker escaped mysteriously from the airport by dint of their understandings with the customs and other agencies at airport.
Sources said, in last 7 days, gold worth Tk.22 cr was seized at CIA. It is alleged that this golds are being smuggled through this airport in collusions with some unscrupulous officials of different agencies engaged at airport duty .
Airport sources said , biggest consignment of gold was detected on December 12 last where customs seized 16 kgs gold .
About 50 kgs gold was seized in the last two months. 15 kgs gold was seized on November 18 last.
Besides, the biggest consignments, less quantity of golds are pouring in CIA everyday or alternate days, sources said.
Airport customs seized 10 gold bars weiging about 1.16 kgs from five passengers came from Dubai and Muscat on Wednesday night.
One passenger came from Dubai by Fly Dubai air and 4 passengers from Muscat came by Oman Air. The estimated cost of the gold is about Tk.50 lakh, sources said.
The largest consignment of gold was seized at the airport on Thursday last approximate value of Tk.20 cr.
Sources said, Customs Intelligence officials of CIA in the port city seized 420 gold bars weight about 49 kgs in an abandoned condition from a flight came from Dubai.
The approximate cost of the gold is about Tk.20 crores. Assistant commissioner of Customs Moshiur Rahman confirmed the matter of gold haul to this correspondent yesterday.
These gold was found inside the flight of Fly Dubai arrived CIA at about 8,30 m.
The last consignment of 700 grams of gold seized on Friday morning from a Dubai flight of Fly over approximate cost of Tk.30 lakh, sources. Mentionable that since Sunday last, every day gold consignment detected at Chittagong Airport .
