Global Shippers Alliance (GSA) meeting was held in Paris, French on 22-24 March, 2016. European Shippers’ Council (ESC) and French Association des Utilisateurs de Transport de Fret (AUTF) hosted meeting.
Denis Choumert, Chairman, European Shippers’ Council (ESC) presided over the meeting. A two member delegation of Shippers’ Council of Bangladesh (SCB) headed by its Chairman, Md Rezaul Karim attended the meeting. Other member is Arzu Rahman Bhuiyan, Directorof SCB.
The meeting discussed about increasing freight rates, surcharges and ancillary charges, length the global and regional economic outlook, over tonnage situation, freight rate movements and port congestions.
The meeting recognised the efforts of member councils in enhancing knowledge and professionalism in the industry through provisions of various forms of training and education.
The meeting re-emphasised the importance of human resources development for the industry and agreed to co-operate further in this aspect.
Md Rezaul Karim, Chairman, Shippers’ Council of Bangladesh (SCB) took part in the discussion and expressed his resentment with unilateral ocean freight rate increased imposed by shipping lines putting the shippers in an embarrassing situation. Representatives from Hong Kong Shippers’ Council, Macau Shippers’ Association, Thai National Shippers’ Council and Indonesia National Shippers’ Council also attended the meeting.
