Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi on Tuesday said measures would be taken to increase the production at state-owned jute mills and ensure the usage of jute bags for packaging goods everywhere as well.
“The government will take necessary initiatives to ensure the use of jute in packaging industry everywhere as well as boost the production of the government jute mills,” he said at a meeting with executive committee members of Bangladesh Jute Mills Association (BJMA) at his office in the secretariat here.
BJMA leaders, including its secretary Barek Khan, and senior officials of Textiles and Jute Ministry were present, among others, in the meeting, said an official release.
Mentioning that many jute mills have been shut down due to high production cost of jute-products, Gazi said the government would be careful so that no factory would be shut down in the future.
Referring to different initiatives, including enactment of the Mandatory Jute Packaging Act-2010, of the present government in developing jute sector, the minister said more use of jute will boost the prosperity of the jute.
He added: “The farmers will be given all kind of facilities for producing jute… Our soil is suitable for jute production,” he said.
