Gafargaon housewife killed for dowry

A housewife named Dilruba died three days after she had been poisoned for dowry. She died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on Friday night (July 2). Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gafargaon Police Station Anukul Sarkar confirmed the incident.
Dilruba’s husband and her family have fled after the incident.
Dilruba is the daughter of Siraj Uddin of Rouha village in Saltia union of Khatun upazila. According to locals, Dilruba got married to Moniruzzaman Khan Manik, son of Monaim Master of Kharuabarail village in Rawana Union, ten months ago after divorcing his first wife.
Manik used to torture Dilruba for dowry since marriage. Shortly after the marriage, Dilruba took a dowry of one lakh taka from her father and gave it to Manik. But Manik demanded another two lakh taka for the dowry.
Dilruba’s family claimed that Manik tried to kill his wife by pouring poison in her mouth for dowry on June 30 (Wednesday). Later, her in-laws rescued her and took her to the Upazila Health Complex. He died on Friday night after 3 days of treatment. Gafargaon Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anukul Sarkar said Dilruba’s family had lodged a complaint in the incident. Legal action would be taken.
