Heavy monsoon rainfall and hill drifts are causing floods again in the northern part of the country.
Water is rising in 80 rivers, receding in 10 while flowing above the danger level in three rivers.
Water in the Brahmaputra, the Jamuna, the Padma and the Surma rivers is rising, but receding in the Kushiyara river, according to the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB).
Water in the Brahmaputra, the Jamuna and the Padma river will continue rising in next 72 hours. The Surma river is on rising trend, but the Kushiyara river will remain steady in next 24 hours.
The Surma river at Kanaighat point is flowing 27 cm above danger level and at Sunamganj point 47 cm above danger level. The Jadukata river at Lorergarh is flowing 118 cm above danger level.
168 mm of rainfalls were recorded in last 24 hours at Bhairab Bazar, 155.5 mm at Narayanhat, 140 mm at Lorergarh, 132 mm at Dalia, 125 mm at Sunamganj, 116.3 mm at Ramgarh, 105.6 mm at Narshingdi, 103 mm at B.Baria, 85.7 mm at Panchpukuria, 70mm at Bogra, 69 mm at Chilmari, 64 mm at Sylhet, 61 mm at Gaibandha, 59 mm at Barguna, 55.8 mm at Teknaf, 50 mm at Rangpur and 50 mm at Dewanganj.
Heavy rainfall and hill water caused flood at Sunamganj. The Surma river at Sunamganj is flowing 42 cm above the danger level and flooded the lower parts of the district. The water level in the Hawor area has also increased.
Hall drifts caused unexpected flood in the Haor area in April and destroyed Boro produces. Before improving the situation, floods arrived again in the Sunamganj district.
Heavy monsoon rain and drift have flooded Bishrambharpur, Tahirpur and Doarabazar upazilas and other lower lands of the district.
The water level in the district is rising due to continual rainfall and people of the district are facing extreme woe.
