Foreign students decrease in pvt varsities

The number of foreign students studying in the private universities decreased in 2015 despite emergence of more and more new varsities.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) in its 42nd annual reports expressed deep concern and asked the private universities to ensure world standard higher education to attract the foreign students.
There were 1,548 foreign students in private universities in 2015 compared with 1,643 students in 2014, according to the report.
The number was 1,612 in 2013, 1,642 in 2012 and 1,651 in 2011.
The UGC report said that students from 36 countries had enrolled with 33 universities in Bangladesh.
Nine hundred and fifty five students are studying in University of Science and Technology in Chittagong, 140 in Daffodil International University, 29 in Dhaka International University, 91 in International Islami University in Chittagong, 83 in North South University, 10 in Eastern University, 72 in Port City International University, two in Northern University of Bangladesh, two in United Internatioal University, four in Independent University Bangladesh, four in International University of Business Agriculture and Technology, three in Ahsanullah Science and Technology University, nine in East West University, one in Metropolitan University, two in University of Asia Pacific, Nine in Gano University, one in Bangladesh University, three in South East University, seven in University of South Asia, three in Shanto Mariam Univeristy of Creative Technology, four in State University of Bangladesh, three in Southern University of Bangladesh, nine in University of Information Technology and Science, nine in Uttara University, three in Presidency University, 16 in Bangladesh University of Health Sciences, one in Asian University of Bangladesh, one in Prime University, eight in Sonargaon University, 10 in Eastern University, 26 in BRAC University,  
30 in American International University of Bangladesh, one in Asa University Bangladesh and two in East Delta University.
These students come from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, China, Jordan, Palastine, Poland, Cameroon, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, Turkey, Uganda, Germany, Australia, USA, Canada, Somalia, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Kenya, Italy, Japan, Liberia, Tanzania, Papua New Guinea, Zimbabwe, Myanmar, Malay, Philippines, UAE, Egypt and Netherlands.
UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan told The New Nation that the private universities play important role to increase the image of the country through higher education. The country will be beneficial widely if the universities ensure quality higher education, he said.
The number of private universities in the country has increased to 96.
