Five killed in Ukhiya road accident

Five persons, including three Rohingya men were killed and at least nine others critically injured when a bamboo-laden truck overturned in front of Balukhali Customs Office (near Bangladesh-Myanmar Moitree Road) in Ukhia upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Monday morning.
Three Rohingyas deceased are Noor Kayes, 25, of Baluchali Shibir of Ukhia, Tasrin Akther, 20, of Alikhali camp of Teknaf, and his 27 day-old daughter Mosharfa Akhter. Another person killed in the accident is Rozina Akter, 23, a field worker of Mukti-Cox’s Bazar, a non-government organisation
Jalal Miah, 36, according to Mohammad Farid Uddin, Deputy Commissioner of (Wari Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Gendaria Police rescued Ahmed Haq Raj, 61, from the house of Jalal Miah at Kamarpara in Turag area under DMP, the DC said in a briefing at DMP media center on Monday.
A woman identifying herself as Asha called Raj and asked him to meet at Sonali Nupur Community Centre in Gendaria promising to give him a job on a construction site.
From the centre, he was then taken to a three-storey building in Datta Para of Tongi, where he was confined and tortured, the official said.
The abductors demanded from Raj Tk two lakh as ransom through bKash accounts, the official added.
