Five killed in road crashes

Five people, including a woman, were killed and 23 others injured in separate road accidents in Sylhet, Kushtia and Joypurhat districts on Saturday.
In Sylhet, two people were killed and 20 suffered injuries in a collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Sylhet-Dhaka highway at Burunga village under Osmaninagar Police Station in the afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Azir Ali, 52, and Sayesta Miah, 38, of the village.
The accident took place in the area around 2pm when the bus overturned by the road and the auto-rickshaw plunged into a ditch after the collision, leaving duo pedestrians dead on the spot.
Twenty passengers of both the vehicles were injured in the accident, said Mohammad Mursalin, officer-in-charge of Osmaninagar police station.
In Khustia, two people, including a woman, were killed when a truck rammed a
van on Kushtia-Iswardi road in Ranakhoria area of Mirpur upazila in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Shahjahan Pramanik, 60, a resident of Baradi area of Sadar upazila, and Farida Khatun, 45, of Nolua village in Bheramara upazila.
The sand-laden truck hit the van in the area around 12pm, leaving the duo dead on the spot and another person injured, said Kazi Jalal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Mirpur police station.
In Joypurhat, a truck helper was killed and two people were injured when the truck plunged into a roadside ditch on Panchbibi-Joypurhat road in Panchbibi upazila.
The deceased was identified as truck helper Sujjal Miah of Belamla village of sadar upazila.
