Fire guts 19 dwelling houses, shops

At least 16 dwelling houses were gutted in a devastating fire in city’s Miakhan Nagar area under Bakalia thana on Monday morning.
Fire Service and Civil Defence official said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a dwelling house in the area around 11.10 am and quickly engulfed the surrounding houses.
Four fire fighting units from different areas in the city rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 12.30 pm.
At least three shops of a shopping center were gutted early today in a fire at Lohagara upazila of the district at 2.30 am on Wednesday night.
Fire service sources said the fire originated from an electric short circuit from a medicine shop in the market around 2.30 am and quickly engulfed the surrounding shops.
On information, two units of fire fighters from Satkania and Lohagara upazila fire stations rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 4.30 am.
Valuables worth about Taka three lakh were gutted in the fire, fire service sources said. None was injured in the fire incident, the sources added.
Bank official held by ACC : Deputy General Manager of Pubali Bank , Chittagong Principal Office Md. Nurul Kabir has been arrested following the corruption case so filed by Anti- corruption Commission.
Asstt.Director of ACC Md. Sirajul Hoque filed the case before the Bandar thana in chittagong for alleged misappropriation of Tk.3 crores.
 ACC accused five persons including 2 bank officials. Other accused are – Zakir Hossain, Md. Hossain, Anisul Alam and Md Shahabuddin.
 The accused Nurul Kabir was arrested from Kotwali area in city , sources said.
