Staff Reporter, Rangpur :
The measure of agricultural land in Bangladesh, land fertility, natural resources of groundwater and number of agricultural labours are gradually declining. It is also a challenge to meet the demand for paddy in the country by increasing the yield of paddy by tackling the effects of climate change. Our goal is to increase yields and ensure food security by inventing and expanding high yielding modern varieties and sustainable technologies using limited resources in paddy production. Moreover safe food production is part of the SDGs.
The goal of the Department of Entomology is to innovate sustainable insect management technology in rice and reduce the cost of rice cultivation. The Department of Entomology has implemented an exhibition to reduce the use of pesticides in paddy cultivation in Fatehpur village of Pirganj through the program “Reducing the use of pesticides and herbicides in paddy cultivation for safe food production and assessing the harmful effects”.
Brie rice, a short-lived variety, has been used here. This is 15 days ahead of the local gold. As a result, farmers can easily harvest any rabi like potato, wheat and soybean
Insect control field yield of paddy (5.60 t / ha) using eco-friendly method is seen in crop cutting. Insect control field yield (5.40 t / ha) using farmer’s own method (three times application of pesticides). In addition, the application of environmentally friendly methods of pest control has resulted in saving of Rs. 1000 per bigha of paddy production.
