The ferry service on the Aricha-Kazirhat route has resumed after being closed for 11 hours.
The ferry service started at 5 pm on Friday (June 18). Earlier, when a truck carrying goods broke down at Kazirhat Ferry Ghat Pontoon, the authorities stopped the ferry service as there was no alternative.
Abu Abdullah RonyBalen, manager of the commerce department at the Aricha office of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation, said the truck broke its axle at the ArichaGhat pontoon at the ferry terminal in the morning. The loading and unloading stopped and the ferry was closed for that reason.
He added that after a long time, if the repair work of the truck is completed, the ferry service on the Aricha-Kazirhat route will be normal from 5 pm. A total of three ferries are plying on the Aricha-Kazirhat route. Considering the suffering of the passengers, private small vehicles and trucks carrying emergency goods are crossing the route on priority basis.
