Ferry service inaugurated between Rayenda Bazar, Bara Masua

A long desired ferry service between Rayenda Bazar, headquarters of Sharankhola, the (last) southern Upazila of Bagerhat District and Bara Masua under Mathbaria, the (last) southern Upazila of Pirojpur district was ceremonially inaugurated on Wednesday noon. It was formally launched by Adv. Amirul Alam Milon, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4 (Morrelganj and Sharankhola Upazilas) and Dr. Md, Rustam Ali Farazi, MP of Pirojpur Constituency-3 (Mathbaria Upazila) jointly as the Chief Guests at Rayenda ferry Ghat. On the occasion thousands of people assembled on the Rayenda ferry Ghat situated on the western bank of river Baleswar and Bara Masua ferry Ghat situated on the eastern bank of the river that separates Rayenda from Bara Masua (Mathbaria Upazila) as well as Bagerhat from Pirojpur to see the opening ceremony of the ferry service.
 So long the people of both the sides (of the river) used to cross 4.5 meter wide Baleswar River with trawlers or mechanized boats. It was risky, costly and time killing. On the occasion both the chief guests and MPs told, after a long waiting the cherished desire of the local people (of both sides of the river) was materialized to day. With the introducing of the ferry service 70 kilometer distance on road was shortened between Paira Sea Port and Mongla Sea Port. Not only that but also it will play an important role in the development of socio-economic condition of thousand of people of Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali and the people of the remote areas of both Barishal and Khulna divisions. It was also learnt from the Roads and Highways department of Bagerhat that in order to make easy and quick the communication of the people of both the sides of the river Baleswar the construction works of Rayenda and Bara Masua ferry Ghats and the approach roads started in the month of March of the present calendar year for introducing the ferry service and it was completed in the month of October at a cost of Tk.1.96 cr. The opening ferry took 40 minutes to cross the mighty Baleswar River.
On the occasion, Farid Uddin Ahmed, Executive Engineer of Roads and Highways, Bagerhat, Raihan Uddin Shanto, Chairman of Sharankhola Upazila Parishad, Khatun-e-Jannat, UNO (Upazila Nirbahi Officer), Shranakhola and others were present.
