Bangladesh-India Friendship Society
A seminar titled ‘Mahatma Gandhi and World Peace’ organised by Bangladesh-India Friendship Society was held in CIRDAP auditorium in the city’s Topkhana Road on Monday. The function was held commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu was present as the chief guest in the programme. While speaking Amu said Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi) had always stuck to the path of truth and philosophy of non-violence.”Gandhi struggled against all kinds of discrepancies, unjust and injustice throughout his life. He upheld the ideology of peace, unity, brotherhood and good-thinking. He is an inspiration to all,” he added. Columnist Syed Abul Maksud presented a keynote paper on the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi. The function was also addressed, among others, by Professor Emeritus Dr AK Azad Chowdhury and General Secretary of the society Subir Kushari.
Garments Sramik Federation
A human chain formed by 13 Garments Sramik Federation was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Tuesday. In the programme the leaders of the organisations greeted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for declaring Taka eight thousand as minimum salary for each garment employee. They also demanded publication of gazette by fixing wages for all grades of the garment industries. The function was addressed, among others, by President of Readymade Garments Workers Federation Lovely Yasmin, Organising Secretary of United Garments of Workers Federation Shehely Afroz and President of Bangladesh Garments Textiles Sramik Federation Shamima Akhter Shirin. President of Bangladesh Garments Sramik Federation Zahanara Begum presided over the event.
