Staff Reporter :Students of Willes Little Flower School on Monday demanded arrest and exemplary punishment to the killer of their fellow Suraiya Akhter Risha, who succumbed to injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Saturday. She was allegedly stabbed by Obaidul, a cutting master of Boishakhi Tailors in Eastern Mollika Shopping Complex on August 24. “We want arrest of the killer. We want justice,” they said.The students also vowed to continue their movement until their demand was met. They said this at a human chain formed in front of the school on Monday with the participation of hundreds of students. The students also called off their demonstration after getting assurance from the Education Minister and police at 2pm.Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid visited Willes Little Flower School and assured the demonstrating students of ensuring justice for Suraiya Akhter Risha.”Today I will talk to the Prime Minister about this. The brute must be tried,” he said The killer will be given exemplary punishment so that no one can dare commit such crimes in future, the minister said.He also called upon the law enforcers to arrest as soon as possible. Around 1:30pm, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)’s Ramna Zone Shibli Noman had urged the students to call off the movement and go back to classes.He assured that the alleged killer ‘Obaidul’ the killer, will be arrested within the next 48 hours. Meanwhile, the vehicular movement on the road at Kakrail was suspended for four hours following the demonstration staged by the students of the institution.Gradually the protest turned bigger as students of Notre Dame College, Viqarunnisa Noon School and College and Siddheswari School and College joined it.They were seen carrying placards and posters with various slogans “Justice for Risha” and “We want justice for Risha”.Imran H Sarker, spokesperson of a faction of Ganojagoran Mancha, joined the demonstrators expressing solidarity with them.It may be mentioned that Suraiya Akhter Risha, a Class-VIII student of the school, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday, four days after she was stabbed allegedly by a stalker in front of the institution at Kakrail.Her family filed a case with the police station the same day mentioning Obaidul as the lone suspect.The case was filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
