Fakhrul put on remand in bus torching case

Court Correspondent :The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday (Tuesday) placed BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on a three-day remand in a case filed for torching vehicles of Public Administration Ministry and preventing police from discharging their duties in the capital on December 28 last year.Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Masud Sheikh passed the order after hearing on a 10-day remand plea of police. Earlier, Sub-inspector of Paltan Police Station Enayet Karim and also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, produced Mirza Fakhrul to the court with the remand prayer. On December 28 of last year, Assistant Sub-Inspector Abdul Malek Hawladar filed the case against 43 named and about 30 unnamed BNP leaders and activists. Later, on January 18, the IO of the case sought the remand. The defense lawyers submitted a petition seeking Mirza Fakhrul’s bail and cancellation of the remand. But the court rejected their pleas. On December 28, last year, a bus carrying some staff of the Public Administration Ministry was set ablaze at the Purana Paltan intersection. Later, two fire engines doused the fire.
