Experts stress on forming taskforce to combat Covid

Public Health Experts have stressed on to form taskforce to enforce lockdown properly to contain spread of coronavirus in the country.
 “As the lockdown has been extended several times, the people are not obeying its norms. At the same time, coronavirus the infections are increasing alarmingly. In this circumstances, we suggested the government to form taskforce immediately to watch whether the lockdown was working properly,” Professor Nazrul Islam of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and Member of the ‘National Technical Advisory Committee’ formed to recommend the government about policies to tackle the virus told The New Nation.
Professor Nazrul Islam said that lockdown is not reportedly maintained adequately.
 “The people in almost every area are violating shutdown frequently.
They have pushed the situation to a serious turn as the coronavirus infections are increasing daily,” he said.
In these circumstances, the national committee has recommended the government to forge task forces in Dhaka, Narayangonj, Gazipur and Savar, where the Covid-19 infections worsened immediately.
Sources said, the experts of the national committee, recommended to form such taskforce headed by a Deputy Secretary to monitore and enforce lockdown in every area.
The suggestion has been submitted to the health ministry for days. But they have not got any reply as yet.
Public health experts told to strengthen the efforts to stop spreading of the virus. The four keys must be maintained. One is to wear face mask, to wear hand gloves, to wear goggles or transparent shields and to maintain social distancing properly.
The taskforce should have to ensure all of those points including other health rules and regulations provided by the health ministry.
In the recommendations, the national committee asked to accommodate Ward Councillors of city corporations in those taskforce.
“The Ward Councillors are known persons among the areas people. He can identify easily people of his or her locality. So nobody would violate the lockdown in his presence or under his monitoring areas,” Professor Nazrul Islam said.
The committee also suggested establishing hand washing centers in every area under surveillance of the taskforce.
They suggested keeping water tanks with taps and soaps in every intersections, shopping mall and market places and kitchen markets so that the people can wash their hands frequently out side of their homes.
They also suggested keeping soaps and water taps protected from thieves under the management of local Ward Councillors so that those may not get lost.
Other Public health experts also stressed on the four keys to stop contamination of the virus among the people.
“To contain spread of coronavirus everyone should follow the four keys strictly. Washing hands with soap frequently is a very effective measure. Wearing hand gloves and goggles are also very important to protect people from coronavirus infections,” Public Health Specialist Dr. Mukhesuzzaman Hero told The New Nation.
He said maintaining social distancing is very much essential to keep people protected from the virus contamination.
