Staff Reporter, Rangpur :
Hospital social service is one of the important public welfare activities of the Department of Social Services. Through it the poor, the helpless and the afflicted can be served. Although this activity is capital-centric, it was expanded to clinics and health complexes at the district and upazila level. Even after that, the patients are not aware of this important activity. Due to its lack of publicity, management and public awareness and accountability, the patients and their relatives are not benefiting much from the problems and scope of the hospital social service activities. Therefore, it is possible to ensure the welfare of the destitute and helpless patients of the hospital by raising public and private funds through proper management, wide publicity and joint efforts of the Patient Welfare Association and the administration, health department, social service department, businessmen and donors.
Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Wahab Bhuiyan said this while addressing a seminar on “Problems and Solutions in the Implementation of Hospital Social Services” at the Rangpur Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Room yesterday. Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Asib Ahsan presided over the seminar. Director of Rangpur Medical College and Hospital Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, Acting Director of Health Dr. Abu Mohd Zakirul Islam, Director of Social Services Abdul Mottaleb Sarkar, Additional Director Md. Mosaraf Hossain, Deputy Director Abdul Matin, Rangpur Medical College Hospital social service officer Joynal Abedin and journalist Aftab Hossain. It is to be mentioned that in the last financial year 4,219 distressed patients in Rangpur district were given assistance of Tk. 45,65,933.
