Thousands of visitors throng in DITF: Exhibitors expect bumper sales in the annual trade caravan

Exhibitors in the 22nd edition of the month-long Dhaka International Trade Fair 2017 (DITF) expecting a bumper sale this year as visitors gathering in the annual trade caravan seems to break all its’ previous record.
According to them, thousands of visitors come to the DITF every day from the very beginning of its inauguration which they are used to see after fifteenth of January.
“We did never see such a huge gathering of visitors in before fifteenth of January, but this year is exceptional. This years’ visitors gathering and sales in all of our stalls may break previous record,” Ahmed Sattar, Showroom Manager of Bengal Plastic told the New Nation on Friday.
He also said many of the stall owners are now recruiting extra staffs expecting increase of visitors in the days to come.
Samina Khanam, Proprietor of Salma Fashion in the in DITF expressing her satisfaction over the sales flow said they have almost fulfilled their sale target of the fair in the meantime.
“We are very happy of seeing the visitors gathering this year. We have submitted extra ordered for goods to our suppliers to cater with the increasing demand,” she added.
However, after visiting the DITF, NN found that although sales in this years’ fair in all the stalls are high but demand for kitchen wares are top in demand
“Various kitchenware are selling like hot cakes at the stalls and pavilions while other items are also in great demand among buyers” said a high official of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), organiser of the fair.
Besides, Plastic products are also in good demand among the customers, he added.
Home appliances, electronics goods, furniture, apparel, cosmetics and foodstuff have also got a good response from shoppers in the fair, Exhibitors and buyers said.
Visiting the fairground, it was noticed that most shoppers were crowding around different pavilions to seek their chosen products, especially plastic crockery and other metallic cook wears.
However, about 30 percent of the 580 stalls and pavilions at the fair showcased locally-made quality products that can beat foreign brands, said the local exhibitors.
The participation of major local brands was limited to sectors such as furniture, kitchenware, food, textiles and plastic.
Sony, account manager of Noah Pavilion, said kitchenware is more in demand among visitors.
The fair has already gained its momentum, he said, adding that many foreigners are expected to turn up here after two weeks.
However, many juveniles from different areas in the city were seen visit the fair in groups.
“We, the five friends, have come here to visit the fair. We are delighted to see the products displayed, especially the cosmetics items,” said Nargis Fatima from Gazipur.
Nihar Ranjan Das Gupta from Mohammedpur with her two children were spotted buying a lot of things.
“My children were very eager to come here. I have come to buy them toys made of plastics, foodstuff and warm clothes.”
Asked why he preferred buying from the fair, he said: “The fair is a good place for us to choose my desired items as most companies are displaying their latest collections.”
“Besides, we get discounts on different products that come to our favour.”
A total of 21 countries including Bangladesh have participated in the fair this year organised by the Export Promotion Bureau and the Ministry of Commerce.
