Abdul Muqit Chowdhury :Hazrat Ali (Ra) narrated that the Prophet (Sm) said: “O people! The month (Ramadan) of Allah has come with His mercies, blessings and forgiveness ….. In it every breath you take is (has the reward of) tasbih (praise of Allah), your sleep is worship, your good deeds are accepted and your invocations are answered …. Indeed, miserable is one who is deprived of Allah’s forgiveness in this month.” (Excerpt from the Sermon of Rasulullah (Sm), Fasting : A Divine Banquet, Al-Balagh Foundation]Rasulullah (Sm) said, “Fasting is a shield. So the people fasting should not indulge in foul speech and surely the breath of a person fasting is pleasanter to Allah than the odour of musk.” Hazrat Salaman Farsi (Ra) narrated from Rasulullah (Sm) : “It is the month of patience and tolerance. The return for patience is Zannat”. Fasting has immense moral and ethical value. Passions, biophysical compulsions and allurements are subdued through it as it is a spiritual discipline (both by physical practice and process) to attain nearness of Allah. Al-Quran describes fasting people as ‘spiritual wayfarers.’ Patience and tolerance are vital factors for spiritual attainment. There may be provocations. But anger should be controlled in spite of all these. Rasulullah (Sm) said, “This is the month of brotherly feeling, to be sympathetic mutually. So, take care to abstain from anger and the misdeeds occurring from anger as quarreling, beating and abusing.” He said, “If someone forces you to quarrel, tell him, I am a rozadar. I am not ready to quarrel by mouth or with hands.” The rozadars should adhere to follow the practice of rituals and injunctions observed by the respected Sahaba under the direct supervision of Rasulullah (Sm), which ensured brotherly feeling and mutual sympathy in the society. Abusing, quarreling and engaging in physical assaults are inhuman activities. A rozadar should remain above all these. He/she should be guided by the commandments of Allah and unique examples/words of Rasulullah (Sm).
