Establishing good governance in cooperative sector stressed

Speakers at a seminar stressed the need for establishing good governance in cooperative sector to promote its positive image in the society.
A section of cooperative organizations has tarnished image of cooperative sector by misappropriating people’s money and adopting other unfair means, they told the seminar titled “Cooperative enterprises achieve sustainable development for all” in the conference room of Cooperative Bhaban in the city on Saturday. State Minister for LGRD and Cooperative Masiur Rahman Ranga, lawmakers Md Israfil Alam and Md Nazrul Islam Babu and Registrar of Cooperative Department Md Mofizul Islam, among others, addressed the seminar.
Former advisor to the caretaker government Dhiraj Kumar Nath presented the keynote paper at the seminar.
Ranga said the government is working with utmost sincerity to expand cooperatives to turn Bangladesh into a middle income country by 2021.
It is urgent to promote cooperatives for ensuring sustainable developments in the country, he added. There is immense potentiality of expanding cooperative, Ranga said and urged all to come forward to make cooperative movement a success.
