Enhancing global cooperation to fight Covid-19 underscored

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen underlined the need for enhancing initiatives to boost up international cooperation in combating Covid-19 pandemic.
“As the menacing Covid-19 has now become a global issue, initiatives need to be taken to enhance international cooperation to fight the fatal disease,” he said this while addressing a video conference of visiting Chinese medical team with the doctors of Sylhet, Chattogram and Dhaka.
The minister thanked the visiting medical team as well as the people of China for their support to the people of Bangladesh during this critical time of pandemic.
“As our government remains deeply engaged in containing spread of Covid-19 pandemic in Bangladesh, your (Chinese physicians) support would go a long way in detection of cases as well as protection of our medical professionals,” he said.
Momen said Bangladesh and China have continued to engage in cooperation and collaboration to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said China has set up an example to the world by taking a range of prompt actions, including stringent quarantine restrictions, early setting up of taskforce, as well as construction of emergency hospitals since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Observing that the success of China in combating coronavirus has made it a role model in stopping further aggravation of the situation, Momen said, “Bangladesh is also taking cue from the Chinese experience to contain the coronavirus outbreak.”
Mentioning that Chinese government, Ali Baba Foundation, Jack Ma Foundation and many other state-owned Chinese firms have contributed various medical supplies in substantial numbers to Bangladesh, Momen said “The people of Bangladesh will certainly remember this with gratitude.”
The minister thanked Chinese government and people for taking utmost care of Bangladeshi students in Wuhan and other parts of China.
On June 8, the 10-member Chinese medical expert team with remarkable success in containing coronavirus and treating patients in China arrived here to help Bangladeshi physicians combating Covid-19 pandemic.
During their two-week stay in Bangladesh, the expert doctors, six males and four females, have been visiting designated hospitals, quarantine centres, and testing centres, discussing the epidemics with Bangladeshi counterparts and making calibrated propositions for containment and treatment.
The Chinese National Health Commission organised the visit of the medical team selected by the Hainan Provincial Health Commission.
