As part of the government’s austerity measures to reduce mounting pressure on electricity demand, the Bangladesh Madrasha Education Board has given eight directives to all the Madrashas to save fuel and electricity.
In a letter signed by Board Registrar Md Siddiqur Rahman on Monday, it requested all the authorities of the Madrashas under the Board to follow the directives to be economic in the use of fuel and electricity.
The directives include setting Air Conditioners above 25 degree Celsius, holding online/virtual meetings as far as possible to avoid physical presence, reduction of fuel for vehicles by 20 percent, reduction of electricity use by 25 percent in all the offices and departments under the Board, use of energy
saving equipments to cut electricity waste, ensure sunlight use during office work, stop illumination in all offices and educational institutions until next directive , and sending a monthly energy use report in the first week of each month to the Board.
Sources said that the government is very serious about saving every penny amid the economic meltdown.
The electricity generation has fallen due to the shortfall of gas and fuel to the power plants, trigging massive power crisis across the country.
The government is now rationing the electricity through load shedding in different parts of the country including the capital.
Due to the short supply of electricity, the industries and the households are experiencing frequent load shedding for hours and this situation is severe in rural areas.
