Farmers in the district have started cultivation of early variety potato ahead of Rabi season.
Farmer Subash Chandra of Sabouspara village under Debiganj upazila said early variety potato cultivation is profitable as the crop can harvest only two months after cultivation.
He said that he had cultivated potato on one hectare of land last year at a cost of Taka 40,000 and made profit Taka 60,000 Taka.
This year he cultivated early variety of potato on five bighas of land.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) source said if the weather remains good, there will be bumper production of early variety of potatoes this year.
