Dean’s Award honoured

Four students of various departments under the Faculty of Pharmacy of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded ‘Dean’s Award’ for their outstanding academic results in B. Pharm examination of 2013. Besides, one teacher of the same faculty has received Dean’s Award for his extra-ordinary contribution to research. Two other meritorious students of the Faculty have been awarded Gold Medal while seven others have received scholarship.  
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed certificates, gold medals and scholarships among the awardees as chief guest at a function held on Tuesday at TSC auditorium.
Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Prof Dr Md. Saiful Islam presided over the function while Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Shahid Akhtar Hossain and Vice President of Bangladesh Pharmacy Council Mosaddek Hossain addressed it as special guests. Chairman of the Department of Pharmacy Sitesh Chandra Bachar delivered welcome speech. Chairmen of the various departments under the Faculty of Pharmacy were also present on the occasion.
DU VC Prof Arefin Siddique urged the brilliant students to equip themselves with the spirit of our Liberation War as well as the humanitarian values. Only excellent academic result is not good enough to make Bangladesh a developed country, he said. He recalled the outstanding contributions of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to develop socio-economic condition of the country and said, students have to follow his ideals. We should never forget his contributions to the nation, he added. Bangabandhu wanted to confer the special status on Dhaka University during his visit to it which was scheduled on August 15, 1975, but he was brutally killed by a group of miscreants early hours on that day, the VC mentioned. He paid glowing tributes to the memory of Bangabandhu in the month of mourning.
Dean’s Awardee teacher is Professor Dr Abul Hasnat and the students are Nusrat Ahmed, Fabliha Ahmed Chowdhury, Tasnova Tasnim and Sabreena Chowdhury Raka.  
 The recipients of Kothashilpi Sardar Jainuddin Gold Medal are Nusrat Ahmed and Fabliha Ahmed Chowdhury.
The recipients of Badrunnessa Gaffur Memorial Trust Scholarships are Sania Ashrafi, Farzana Kabir, Farina Aziz, Fahad Imtiaz Rahman, Luba Binte Mahbub, Diponkor Kumar Shill, Taposhi Nahid Sultana and Poushali Saha.
