Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury called on Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma at the Commonwealth Secretariat at Marlborough House in London on Wednesday.
According to a Jatiya Sangsad press release on Thursday, both the leaders discussed the role of parliaments in achieving sustainable development of the member states.
The Speaker said the voice of the parliamentarians of the Commonwealth countries could be raised through the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and their recommendations should be sent to the governments of the member countries so that lawmakers views are reflected in the development planning of the states.
In this way, Shirin said, the CPA recommendations can effectively be materialized through the governments.
Welcoming the Speaker to the Commonwealth Secretariat, Kamalesh Sharma said both Commonwealth Secretariat and CPA should work together for the overall development of the member states.
