Early Eid shopping starts in Rangpur, Rajshahi

Started early Eid shopping despite higher prices of Eid items, including clothes, much ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity to avoid abnormal rush at the last moment in the city markets.
According to the market sources and local observers, Eid shopping in all markets, shopping malls, complexes and makeshift wayside markets marks huge sales amid tight security measures in the divisional city. Hundreds of men, women, housewives, students, girls, boys, youths and adolescents have been buying Eid items on their own choices from the markets and their movements have been creating huge traffic jam since 10: am daily in the city.According to the market sources, sales of shoes and cosmetics have also increased substantially right now at the shops, shopping malls and markets and the same will further increase in the last week of Eid shopping.
Police sources informed that adequate security measures, including launching of special traffic movement, have been taken to enable the rushing people to buy their Eid items in hassle-free and peaceful atmosphere and that no untoward incident has been reported so far.Members of the law enforcing and intelligence agencies both in uniforms and plain clothes have been patrolling the markets, road traffic and other important places to stop all sorts of mugging, burglary, extortion and other crimes through stronger vigilance.Huge number of buyers is thronging the Super market,Rangpur plaza, Arshid Hakars market , City center , Maha, Oprupa, Monorum, Arang, Shee and other aristocrat markets and shopping malls in the city. The female students, young girls and adolescents are mostly purchasing three pieces of various designs like’Tumili’, ‘Chhanchhan’, ‘Ranjona’, Anar Koli’, ‘Jhilik-2’, ‘Khushi’, ‘Jibika’, Discochally’, and many others at higher rates than last year.
Talking to the this noon at different city markets, traders said the buyers are purchasing goods of their own choice despite higher prices of clothes for male, female, babies and children this time than the previous years.A number of shop owners and businessmen said the sale of Eid items is relatively higher this year, even three week ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr festival.M. Rahman and Selim Ahmed, university students at Rangpur Mini Super Market said prices of clothes for people of all ages are much higher this year compared to last year.Besides, authorities of the business establishments, business organisations, shopping malls, complexes, markets and centres have taken their own measures to ensure peaceful environment for the shoppers in all shopping places in the city.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: With a little bit two weeks more left for the Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of the Muslims, the Rajshahi city has been caught by Eid shopping fever with modern and traditional shopping malls bustling with shoppers from all walks of life.
Hundreds and thousands of people are seen purchasing items of their own choice with huge enthusiasm despite significant rise in prices of all kinds of clothes than the last year.
Movement of the shoppers has created huge traffic congestion at the major shopping areas. Shop owners told BSS that sales were showing an upward trend since last couple of days.
Salesmen of different markets, footpaths, makeshift sales centers are passing busy time from morning to midnight as people of all ages gathered there to buy their dresses and other items to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, sources added.
Market sources said the overall selling is much higher this year because of further improvement in the economic condition of people of all classes.
Businessmen, market association leaders and shoppers highly appreciated the government initiatives for creating favorable trade atmosphere during Ramadan and said they had been doing good business in a secured and safe environment.
Deployment of huge police personnel at different points and market places, intensive surveillance work by the police and engagement of private security men at shopping malls by the authority concerned have ultimately created a fool-proof security arrangement for businessmen as well as shoppers.
“We are doing our business very well this year as people seem to be relieved from the sense of insecurity. Even as a businessman, I have not faced any untoward situation relating to law and order since the very first day of Ramadan”, said Farid Mamud, General Secretary of RDA Market Businessmen Association.
He said people with their family members are rushing to the markets for shopping this year even at midnight due to improved law and order. “The volume of sale is much higher this year,” he added.
Saidul Islam, owner of Laboni Shari Ghar at Rajshahi New Market said local products particularly Salwar-kameez sets for girls, shoes, sarees with embroidery and stone work, panjabees, shirts and trousers produced by different local fashion houses are attracting the customers.
Buyers as well as shoppers said dresses like salwar-kameez, panjabi, saree and other dresses made for children by fashion houses, using the local fabrics and materials, are getting more preferences of the fashion lovers.
