Early earthquake preparedness for reducing losses emphasised

The extent of losses of human lives during earthquake and fire incidents could be reduced substantially through creating awareness about natural calamities among students and adopting early preparedness.
Application of efficient emergency response systems for ensuring proper post-earthquake managements and during fire incidents along with early preparedness could substantially reduce the extent of losses of human lives.
The opinion came at concluding ceremony of the day-long ‘Training Course on Creating Awareness on Earthquake and Fire Extinguishing Methods’ at Siddique Memorial School & College auditorium in Rangpur yesterday.
Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station organised the training course for students, teachers and employees of the educational institution as a part of its ongoing training programmes being conducted in four educational institutions here every week.
Leader of Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Abdul Hamid attended and addressed the concluding ceremony as the chief guest with Chairman of Siddique Memorial School & College Ferdous Ahmmed Mukul in the chair.
Officials and personnel of Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station, teachers and students of the educational institutions and local journalists attended the ceremony.
Abdul Hamid narrated importance of awareness on earthquake and fire incidents and knowledge on early preparedness among students and providing them training for comprehensive disaster management during and after earthquake and other calamities.
“Most of the severest intensity earthquakes occurred at daytimes during the past 100 years causing maximum casualties in the educational institutions for lack of preparedness and knowledge among the teachers, students and concerned authorities,” he said.
Abdul Hamid laid importance on organising and demonstrating artificial rescue and relief operations in all educational intuitions to educate the students on their roles for self-safety during and post earthquake and fire incident periods.
In his speech, Chairman of the educational institution Ferdous Ahmmed Mukul stressed on disseminating knowledge on earthquake and fire incidents among the students and teachers to enable them assisting the victims timely on the spots during disasters.
